Not only did that get rid of my obsolete heir blocks, but I took a chance and deleted the code for the other heir blocks and re-generated them, and now my seemingly bizarre errors are gone and things are working as well as expected at this point. I will keep this in mind, it looks from my limited perspective, like the heir blocks don't necessarily get completely rebuilt when a change is made.
I have the old heir block code preserved in case that's interesting.
